SMU Students Analyze the 2012 Presidential Election

American Future Fund strategic advertising strategy

The AFF announced that it would be dropping about half a million dollars in ….. Minnesota? This would strike most people as odd since the state has voted democrat since 1976. Why are they spending so much money in a state that doesn’t appear to be competitive in the 2012 presidential election?

The method to this madness is that the markets in Minnesota overlap with Wisconsin and some parts of Iowa, meaning that the ads will reach battleground voters.

This ad, “Promises” is a clever look at what President Obama said in 2008 and is again saying today. It displays him saying the exact same lines today as he did four years ago, leading to the question, “after four years of the same speeches, are you better off?”
