The Sunlight Foundation discovered in a recent tally that NFL political donors have donated more money to Republicans than to Democrats. The report notes that team employees (players, owners, and staff) have donated over $1.5 million dollars for this election. Nearly three times of the amount of the donations were donated to the Republicans rather than the Democrats.

A recent Examiner article explores which NFL team employees donated to which candidate and how much. Some of the highlights include Miami Dolphins owner, Stephen Ross, donated $100,000 to the pro-Romney super PAC and members of the Bidwell family, owners of the Arizona Cardinals, donated over $154,000 to the Republican National Committee.

Woody Johnson, the Jets owner, was asked in a interview whether he’d prefer to see a winning season from the Jets or Mitt Romney living the White House. “Well I think you always have to put country first,” Johnson said, “so I think it’s very, very important that not only for us but for particularly our kids and grandkids that this election comes off with Mitt Romney and [Paul] Ryan as president and vice-president.”

Even, Hall of Fame quarterback, John Elway, endorsed Mitt Romney ahead of this Wednesday’s presidential debate in Colorado the Weekly Standard noted in a recent article. Elway said in a statement, “Governor Romney is a proven leader with the experience and background to turn around our struggling economy.”
