SMU Students Analyze the 2012 Presidential Election

A Safe Night in Iowa

Last night, Barack Obama claimed victory over Mitt Romney on the national stage as well as in Iowa. The polls have predicted all along that Obama would win the Hawkeye state. Although things were close for a while, democratic voters came out in full force last night to give the president a win of over five percentage points.

The congressional races had a similar outcome.

The prize went to the safe bets in the congressional race. All those slated to win achieved a victory. No upsets here. The results were as follows:

District 1: Bruce Braley (D)

District 2: Dave Loebsack (D)

District 3: Tom Latham (R)

District 4: Steve King (R)

Yet again, the victory goes to the incumbents and Iowa remains split down the middle for at least a few more years.
