Lots of right-wing political aficionados have made claims that President Barack Obama would influence the legalization of marijuana. However, in addition to tonight’s historical election, the states of Colorado and Washington have legalized marijuana for recreational use.
The initiatives would allow marijuana to be cultivated and for special stores to sell up to an ounce to individuals 21 and older. Colorado’s Amendment 64 makes changes to state law to allow for commercial production and sale. Massachusetts joined 17 states in allowing marijuana to be approved for medical reasons.
This new legislation can either be seen as irresponsible or accommodating, depending on which side of the political spectrum someone lies. Lawsuits are inevitable, but for now, Washingtonians and Coloradans are free to buy weed.
