Welcome to Destination 270. As part of my Political Communication Seminar course in the Communications Studies department at Southern Methodist University, students are studying, analyzing, and writing about the 2012 U.S. Presidential Election on this website. In addition to writing about the campaign in general, each student is monitoring a “battleground state” and will be reporting on state-by-state developments. The name for the site refers to the number of Electoral College votes needed to be elected President of the United States — there are currently 538 electors and 270 of their votes are needed to win. We hope this site will help you understand the campaign and keep you informed as the election nears. Each student is solely responsible for the content, analysis, and commentary they post, and the content of this site is not endorsed or approved by SMU, Dr. Schill, or other affiliated groups.
